Psyche and Cupid Mirror attributed to Auguste Moreau

Moreau Auguste

Exceptional small Psyche tilting table mirror in solid silver, representing a winged Cupid, standing on a base of four flat rosette feet, connected with curved struts and joined together by a large domed curved bar with the attributes of Cupid, his bow and arrow. His hand rests on one of the richly sculpted and vibrant legs, supporting on either side a flame piedouche urn and the torso of a naked young woman, holding a rose at arm’s length. The central oval-shaped part, that can be titled, contains a bevelled cut-out mirror in an openwork frame with motifs of hanging flower garlands and crowned with a knotted ribbon.

French work attributed to the sculptor Auguste Moreau
Art Nouveau-inspired model, circa 1900
