Spring Offering porcelain plate by KPM Manufacture
Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin
Exceptional large polychrome painted porcelain plate representing an allegorical scene – spring offering. In the foreground a young woman, dressed in a ceremonial dress, enters a temple for an offering. She carries a basket of fruit and is accompanied by two servants. A little girl asks for a bunch of grapes.
Signed H. Schweitzer on the bottom right on the painting.
The plate bears the hollow mark K.P.M on the back and is topped with a sceptre.
From the original painting by Adolf Friedrich Georg Wichmann dated 1852.
Original Louis XVI style frame in gilded bronze with matte and burnished gold.
Produced by the KPM manufacture (Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin).
German work from the first half of the 19th century, 1848.
H. Schweizer appears also to have been a member of the KPM manufacture, which is considered “one of the most successful and internationally renowned crafts businesses of its kind in the 19th century”. It was also known as the “centre for paintings on porcelain plates”. (U. Becker).
