Circular dressing table by Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand

Small circular dressing table in a satin and mahogany veneer, composed of two superimposed drum tops, the upper one decorated with a round porcelain plate in the style of Sèvres, with polychrome and gold decoration of birds in a landscape, surrounded by flowers.

The lower top, with marquetry decoration of leaves, opens with two semi-circular shutters revealing two holes. It rests on four tapered and fluted feet with copper plating, finished with casters. Decoration in engraved and gilded bronze such as openwork reserve, draperies, rosettes, rings and hooves.

This dressing table is a faithful replica of the one designed by Martin Carlin, probably under the direction of the haberdasher Simon-Philippe Poirier around 1770. Some examples are now stored in museums including the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Victoria & Albert Museum.
The Maison Sormani also made an exact replica of this piece of furniture.
