Cage clock – MANUFACTURE DE VIENNE
Cage clock set in gilt bronze and porcelain on a large blue background decorated with polychrome plates painted with different scenes of people and child musicians. Richly decorated with lace, gilded strips and white enamelled cabochons. The dome-shaped upper part, which depicts Aurora pulling Apollo’s chariot, symbolizes the hours that pass from night to day and is inspired by Guido Reni’s painting from 17th century Rome.
The body of the clock is adorned with small columns and on the façade its enamel dial is adorned on all sides with painted scenes. It rests on a base decorated with musical scenes in semicircles and is framed by gilded strips and a stylized Greek motif. Four small gilded bronze feet.
