Empire table with Caryatides after Jacob-Desmalter
Magnificent formal centre table in a rectangular shape inlaid with an Amboyna wood veneer and richly decorated with finely engraved golden bronzes in Empire style. The top is in Sea Green marble, inspired after the model by Jacob-Desmalter.
This rectangular table, surrounded by a frieze decorated with laurel leaves, supported by four female caryatids with their arms crossed in gilded bronze. Two rectangular supports on either side decorated with various gilt bronze patterns connecting the band to the plinth.
The H-shaped plinth is centred by an urn with handles framed by two seated sphinxes.
French Empire style work.
Produced at the end of the XIX century around 1880-1890.
The original model of this table was created for Caroline Murat’s bedroom furnishing at the Elysée Palace made by Jacob-Desmalter in 1808, transferred to the Grand Trianon where it is conserved today.
