Regence style commode in the style of Cressent – MAISON MILLET
Maison Millet
Large and magnificent regence style curved shape commode with an amaranth veneer marquetry and violet wood. Facade opens with two large crossover drawers and two side panels, decorated on both sides with frames patterned with cross motifs.
Exceptional finely engraved and gilded bronze decoration, such as: corner ornamentation, rinceau with foliage, volute keyholes, gadroons, floral garlands and sinuous handles. The object has a cut-out embellished with an ornamental bronze in its centre.
It rests on arched feet, finished in gilt bronze lion paws.
White veined marble top with cut-out and moulding.
French work in Regence style, produced in the second half of the XIX century, around 1880.
Attributed to Maison Millet in Paris.
Original model commissioned by Charles Cressent in 1739 for King Louis XV’s bedroom at Château de La Muette and preserved today in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
