Sumptuous high chest of drawers, attributed to Maison Beurdeley

An exceptional piece of mahogany veneered furniture with rounded sides adorned with ormolu reserves of acanthus leaves. It opens with a large door centred on a medallion with the attributes of love in the form of two doves standing out against a Lapis lazuli background. The front is flanked by a false drawer and set with a lapis lazuli plaque adorned with two horns of plenty, with putti on either side supporting a wreath interlaced with garlands of laurel, foliage and roses. The fluted pilaster jambs rest on a solid base with a projecting top supported by swivel feet. This piece of furniture is richly decorated with finely chased and gilded bronze.
